Nintendo is in a sticky situation its handheld console which dominated the market at one point have been kicked to the curvy by smartphones, and its latest console the Wii U which is going up against the Xbox One and PS4, had a head start but its still not selling so well.
Nintendo has a short-term fix for the decline in its handheld units the Nintendo 2DS which really is ugly in a way(okay in every way), the 2DS leaves the claim-shell form factor behind for a flat look and to keep the device cheap they cut back on the 3D as you can tell from the name of the device.
The 2DS will retail for $129.99(R1300), Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime called the 2DS “an entry-level handheld gaming system”. The Nintendo 2DS still plays 3D games without the 3D as well as multi player games via Wi-fi, runs the eShop and it still includes a stylus and you get a 4Gb memory card. This device is aimed for the holiday rush though it won’t help Nintendo after that, the console will be available on October 12th
