Microsoft has opted to use its acquisition of Skype in a very useful way as the service will be the central place for messaging in Windows 8.1, Microsoft will drop the dedicated app that’s been supplied for years and will be replaced by Skype.

This is part of Microsoft’s Messenger Service retirement which forced desktop Messenger users into using Skype back in April, the Skype update in Windows 8.1 will work in very much the same way it does now and should include a few extras.
